The Blackjack Betting Variety

The blackjack objective is to get a card total of 21 or less that's higher than the dealer's hand. The card game starts with players making a wager then getting their first pair of cards to play. The dealer also gets a pair of cards and those are dealt with one facing up and the other facing down. At this point, players have the choice to make side bets before the dealer flips that second card over.

The normal blackjack bet is the initial wager without any side bets. Depending on the outcome, a player can either lose the bet, or win an amount equal to the bet, or win an amount equal to one and a half of that bet, or only keep the bet.

A player wins the amount equal to the bet if the dealer busts or has a card total less than the player. Otherwise, the player gives up the bet. A win of one and half of the bet is received when the player gets a blackjack or a natural. That's a 21 on the first two cards. In case of a plug or a tie, a player only gets to keep the bet.

A side bet that's in favor of the dealer's hand is called insurance. The player adds half of the wager and bets that the dealer has a natural or a blackjack. This betting choice can only be used if the dealer has an ace facing up. When the dealer turns over the second card and it's a ten or a face card, the player wins double.

Another kind of betting choice is called a double down. If you have a good pair, you can double your bet provided that you're allowed only one hit. Another option is called even money. This is collecting your winnings equal to the bet if you have a natural when the dealer has an ace before the second card is turned. This is a safe option because if the dealer also gets a natural, you can only keep your bet.

A player can also opt to surrender. That's forfeiting and losing only half the wager. It can either be an early or a late surrender. The former is allowed before the dealer checks for a natural or a blackjack. The latter is allowed only if the dealer doesn't have a natural so the dealer would have to check the cards first.

Getting a natural is great, but you can opt for even money when the dealer's got an ace. Take an insurance bet and win if the dealer gets the blackjack. If you've got a great hand, opt for the double down. But if you've got a bad one, opt for the surrender and lose only half your bet. The blackjack betting variety gives players good chances to win more and to lose less. It just depends on making the right kind bet at the opportune moment.
