Roulette Betting Terms

Roulette is a simple gambling game. But it has betting terms that need to be understood to make everything smoother.

Inside and outside bets. These are the two types of bets in roulette. This is in relation to where the bets are placed on the roulette table. Thus, inside bets are made on numbers that are within or along the limits on the numerical side of the roulette table. Outside bets are those found outside such limits and are best on non-numbers, like colors and values.

A "straight" in roulette is a bet on any single number on the roulette table. This is the simplest roulette bet. In making a straight bet just put the betting chips in the square where the number is on the roulette table. When the bet choice is on two numbers beside each other, whether horizontally or vertically adjacent, a "split" is the roulette bet. In this case, a betting chip is placed on the line between the two numbers to be bet on.

Now, if the bet is on three successive numbers, the betting chip must be placed on the line of the last number on the roulette table. So, if the bet is, say, on the numbers 13, 14, and 15, the bet must be placed on the line of 15. This is called a "street" bet in roulette. A "corner" or square" bet in roulette, on the other hand, is betting on neighboring numbers forming four squares that have a common intersection point or center on the roulette table. Example is a bet on 8, 9, 11, and 12.

A 'sixline" or "sixaine" in roulette is a bet on two connected street bets. The same procedure for betting on a sixline or sixaine---put the betting chip on the intersection point of the two roulette streets. "Red/black" bets in roulette are made on any of the 18 numbers, whether in the red or black square or pocket. Simply put a betting chip or chips on the square or pocket of choice, red or black. A "low" or "high" bet in roulette has the numbers 18 and 19 as the reference point. Anything 18 and below is a low bet and anything above 19 and above is a high bet. So, to place a high-low bet in roulette, place a chip on either of the sides of the odd-even areas that indicate 1to 18 or 19 to 36.

Roulette winnings must follow accurate betting terms. This simplifies further the whole roulette game.
